Uganda

TWAM has a long-term commitment to Uganda. We currently send between five and nine containers of tools and equipment a year to Ugandan charities, churches, schools, and organisations. We also ship a significant quantity of charitable goods for other missions working in Uganda, and supply charities sending goods out independently.
Containers are shipped to Mombasa in Kenya and go overland to Uganda. TWAM's key partner in Uganda is Mindset Development charity in Entebbe. They receive our containers and act on our behalf to distribute the tools. They also do amazing work in Uganda working with disadvantaged youth and women.
Uganda remains a high-potential country for TWAM. The level of demand shows how essential tools are for livelihoods and training centres across the country. In 2026, our focus will be on strengthening coordination, improving communication between teams, and exploring ways to reduce customs barriers so more groups can receive the tools they urgently need.
Uganda remains one of TWAM’s strongest countries in terms of demand, working with our trusted partner, Mindset Development Organisation.

Story - Eron - Mindset
Eron lives with her mother and sister in Entebbe, Uganda. In 2015 her mother, Diana, used her savings from working in a shop to open a small business selling sweets and cakes. When Eron developed a passion of her own - for tailoring - her mother did everything she could to encourage her, helping her buy basic sewing materials.
Eron’s journey took a turning point when she was introduced to our local Ugandan partner, Mindset, where she trained as a tailor. Drawn to fashion and creativity, Eron chose tailoring because it offers practical and sustainable income opportunities, even through small repair work. After completing her course, Eron received a sewing machine from TWAM, enabling her to launch her own business.
This opportunity has been life-changing. While many of her peers earn very little and struggle to imagine a different future, Eron now dreams of opening her own tailoring school to train others. Her story shows how access to skills training and basic tools can transform lives!
Apply for tools
We do not charge for specific tools or tool kits, but we do ask that you contribute a small amount towards the UK cost of collecting, refurbishing and packing the tools we send to Africa.
The Online Application form below will show you the cost of the tools you are applying for. Before completing your application, please think about the cost and whether you can afford it. If you cannot, please reduce the number of tools you are applying for at this time to a cost you can afford. You can apply again another time for more tools. By applying for less tools rather than waiting to raise a larger amount, you will not have to wait so long for the delivery of the tools you need.
What you need to know:
We will let you know that we have received your application.
You will then receive a phone call from our Zambia team to assess your application.
Following this we will tell you whether or not your application is successful.
We will then tell you when your tools will arrive, and where to collect them from.
After you have had your tools for one year, we will carry out an assessment to make sure you are using your tools as you agreed in your application.
